NEW YORK /January 9, 2018 (AP)(STL.News) — Accepting her award for best actress at the National Board of Review Awards, Meryl Streep had a different message for an awards season that has been rife with gender politics: “I love men.”
Speaking at the annual gala at Cipriani’s in midtown Manhattan on Tuesday night, Streep took a moment to praise the men who have been her collaborators and mentors, from her sixth-grade music teacher to her co-star in “The Post,” Tom Hanks.
The actress said that “we can get through this moment” and urged filmmakers and actors not to lose “the danger of making movies.”
Steven Spielberg’s newspaper drama “The Post” was honored with three awards at the National Board of Review Awards, including best picture and best actor for Hanks. The winners were announced in December.
