MADISON, Wis. | Wisconsin Republicans weaken incoming Dem governor, AG
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin Republicans passed sweeping legislation Wednesday that would shift power to the Republican-controlled Legislature and weaken the Democrat who defeated Republican Gov. Scott Walker last month in a tight election.
GOP lawmakers pushed on through protests, internal disagreement and Democratic opposition in a lame-duck legislative session aimed at reducing the powers of Gov.-elect Tony Evers and Democratic Attorney General-elect Josh Kaul. Both men warned that resulting lawsuits would bring more gridlock to Wisconsin when the new administration takes over in January.
