BEIJING | Stocks start 2019 on back foot after weak Chinese data
BEIJING — Jan 02, 2019— Stock markets started the new year with a tumble, as disappointing Chinese economic data on Wednesday renewed concerns that a global trade war is weighing on growth.
KEEPING SCORE: In Europe, France’s CAC 40 fell 1.6 percent to 4,653 and Germany’s DAX retreated 0.2 percent to 10,531. Both had opened with losses in excess of 2 percent and 1 percent, respectively. London’s FTSE 100 was down 0.9 percent to 6,667.
